How we develop new projects

All Genomics Aotearoa projects aim to solve an identified problem or address an opportunity as identified in our Genomics Aotearoa strategy.

Project workplans are developed and approved with input from our Science Leadership Team and Board and follow our Project development flowchart.

Projects can be one either of:

  • A continuation of an existing, successful Genomics Aotearoa project that remains relevant;
  • A response to new ideas and opportunities, such as a significant international scientific advancement;
  • A response to shifting needs and priorities identified at flax roots level in New Zealand.

If you have ideas for new opportunities or projects in the areas of health, environment or primary production, please contact our Operations Manager jayashree.panjabi@otago.ac.nz

Projects for our Indigenous Genomics Platform
The Indigenous Genomics Platform (IGP) was set up in 2021 as a targeted method of supporting research projects that demonstrate partnership and return clear benefit to Māori.  Projects funded through the platform are initially assessed according to alignment with the aims of the IGP before approval from our Science Leadership Team and Board.

If you have ideas for new opportunities that could advance Māori interests in genomics contact our Vision Mātauranga Manager tracey.godfery@otago.ac.nz.
